2018 Year End Appeal2018-12-06T12:38:05+00:00

“I never thought of it.”

As expressed by a participant in the first Annual NFWFWF Breast Cancer Survivors and Supporters Breakfast, when asked why she didn’t apply for a NFWFWF Healthcare grant when she wanted a second opinion on her cancer diagnosis. This is part of our future challenge – making sure that we have the resources to help, that our community members know we are here for them in their time of need and that they feel comfortable asking for help.

Twenty-seven years ago, a special group of women in our community “thought of it”. They knew there were women who would need assistance with a variety of health challenges from mammograms to dental work to physical therapy to surgery. They “thought of” a way to support the health of the community when they envisioned an organization that is now NFWFWF.

Now we’re “thinking hard” about NFWFWF’s future. It is a pivotal time in the health and well-being of our community and in the health of our organization. We are committed to meeting future challenges, but we need your support to be successful. This year to strengthen our impact we’ve embarked on creating a new three-year strategic plan. Many of you are lending your time and expertise to make this a success and I hope all of you take the opportunity to provide input during this process by taking the upcoming NFWFWF survey so that we can understand and be responsive to your needs and concerns. We need your good thinking!

Your generous support this year has already helped ensure a bright future for our community but our work is not done. This progress was not achieved alone. We had your help. And we still need it.

  • $50 donation supports one month for HelpHer to provide transportation and services to community members
  • $100 donation pays for two community members who cannot afford to attend the Jan Swanson Benefit
  • $200 donation pays for the annual cost of the NFWFWF hotline phone
  • $500 donation underwrites the cost of hosting the annual Breast Cancer Survivors and Supporters Breakfast and providing 200 breast exam shower cards to community members
  • $1,000 donation pays for the cost of six months of Lifeline Medical Alert Service for four women
  • $2,000 donation underwrites the average cost of one healthcare grant to a community member

To get the appeal off on the right foot the NFWFWF Board has committed to 100% participation in the annual appeal. I hope you will “think of” NFWFWF in your year-end giving and count yourself among the individuals who are helping ensure a strong and vibrant lesbian community on the North Fork.

May you all have a happy and healthy holiday season. Please know how grateful I am for your support.

Warmly,

Marj
